The Simplest 4 Component Banana Oat Meal Cookies.

These Banana Oatmeal Cookies are hands down the best banana flavored cookie I have ever had. Not only are they moist and simmer for times, but they're unmistakably banana-y.

Banana may be one of those flavors that may get lost once you bake with it. It can be quite subtle flavor. It always bums me out if that occurs, cause I LOVE the taste of banana. And thus does the hubs.

So when good brewed banana treats come together, we go a little crazy for them.

These cookies make the listing of banana items to go mad for. With no doubt.

And they are so moistthey melt in your mouth. In addition, using both banana and oats inside them, they're basically healthy, right? And perfect for breakfast!

Making them is just as easy as eating them.

You start by mixing all of those lovely components together.

I have to warn you. The odor of the mixture -- with all the banana -- is equally intoxicating. The hubs was at the kitchen creating the dough with me (we left a bargain that included him baking with me) and we had to work hard not to put our faces, or a straw, straight in to it.

You then add all the ingredients (which means you simply use one bowl -- yay!) And mix it all together!

To bake them, spoon about a tablespoon of dough and create a thick disk, as opposed to a chunk. They spread somewhat when baking, so don't put them too close together. Bake them for approximately 10-12 minutes for a fine, moist cookiecutter. So yummy!

1 other thing I love about this recipe is really where it came out.

My grandma (my father's mother ) passed out in 2008. Once I started baking a lot a couple of years back, my uncle gave me cookbook that he'd had didn't use. I've had it on my list to make several her desserts since.

It was a custom for my grandma to make them each Christmas! She gave everyone a large tin of them, which was quite an effort with 6 sons.

I now know exactly how much of an accomplishment it was! My goodness. She made them with a conventional gaufrette iron that goes over an open flame. My dad and I had them in the cooker. They cook very quickly and you need to be exact. Too little time and they kind of disintegrated into iron. Overly long and they burned into the iron and we had to wash it out.

My father was minding the batter and removing the biscuits, I was operating the ironthe hubs was timing things. It took many tries to get it right, but they had been so good! I've tried to create them on my own and it never works. I'd really like to share the recipe, however, the dang irons are so tough to find. And expensive. At some point, I would like to just earn a cookie cutter with the same gaufrette taste.

For now though, I am sharing these biscuits. I really don't think I had them when she made them, but they're from her book.

It is such an enjoyable recipe book to look through, also. There are so many handwritten pages, including clippings and newspaper recipes which were taped into the publication. I love the way that they used to compose recipes in the newspaper -- they had the person who submitted it is name and cute little tales. It's so enjoyable to browse through them! What another time on earth!

Anyways, I do not really know where this recipe read the article came out. The paper appears like it was on a flier out of their square dance band or something (they were big to square dancing). It is undoubtedly from West Virginia, in which they dwelt.

In any event, I'm so happy to finally talk about a recipe from her novel with you! I made a few adjustments to make them thicker and more puffier and they are delicious. There will be more to come out of her recipe book, but for the time being like the banana.

Banana Oatmeal Cookies

Yield: 34-36 COOKIES


1 cup brown sugarpacked

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup mashed bananas

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp baking soda

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

2 tsp cornstarch



2. Add flour, cinnamon, baking soda, cloves and cornstarch and blend until blended.

3. Stir in oats.


5. Flatten dough a little bit, into thick discs. They'll disperse a bit when boiled.

6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges just start to golden.

7. Remove from oven and cool on cookie sheet for 3-4 minutes, then proceed to cooling rack to complete cooling.
